This position is 8 hours per day/12 months per year.

 

Purpose Statement:

The job of Skilled Maintenance Crafts-Mechanic is done for the purpose/s of ensuring the availability of gas, LP, natural gas and diesel engine equipment and vehicles in safe operating condition including recommending needed repairs and/or replacements of assigned equipment; performing required repairs and preventive maintenance, providing written documentation of repairs to meet district, state and federal requirements; working in collaboration with other workers as necessary. This job reports to Supervisor of Building and Grounds.

 

Essential Functions

• Diagnoses engine malfunctions (e.g. gas, lp, natural gas and diesel fueled machinery, etc.) for the purpose of determining needed engine repairs and/or replacements.

• Fabricates and/or modifies material as necessary for the purpose of ensuring the efficient operation of assigned district equipment and/or facilities.

• Inspects district vehicles and grounds equipment (e.g. gas powered engines, drive trains, electrical systems, mowers, trailer, etc.) for the purpose of identifying defects and ensuring that the vehicle and/or equipment in a safe operating condition.

• Maintains the effective functioning of the shop (e.g. ordering and maintaining proper stock and parts, etc.) for the purpose of .

• Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe work area.

• Performs road tests on all vehicles for the purpose of ensuring that vehicles are in safe operating order.

• Prepares documentation (e.g. records of repairs, maintenance logs, costs, vehicle warranties, etc.) for the purpose of conveying required information and meeting federal and state requirements.

• Repairs assigned systems/components, etc. (e.g. brake systems, lights, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.

• Replaces defective vehicle parts/systems (e.g. heating, electrical, tires, pumps, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in a safe operating condition.

• Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

• Responds to road calls regarding disabled vehicles for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field.

 

Other Functions

• Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records; and adhering to safety practices.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: safety practices and procedures.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information/data.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 30% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.
