Purpose Statement:

The job of In-School Discipline Program Director is done for the purpose/s of overseeing students assigned to “In School Suspension”; documentation students' behavioral; monitoring and assisting students with assignments; and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel.

 

Essential Functions

• Collaborates with others (e.g. teachers, counselors, staff, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that students successfully complete assignments, missing work, tests, etc.

• Communicates with a variety of people (e.g. ED, LD and regular education students, staff, parents, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating situations and responding to needs.

• Maintains a variety of (confidential and non-confidential) student records (e.g. detention records, contact information, coursework, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that student information is kept in a safe and confidential manner.

• Monitors students during assigned periods (e.g. before school, after school, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.

• Obtains and monitors lessons assigned by teacher (e.g. math, reading, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring completion of assignments.

• Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. attendance, homework logs, behavior reports, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials.

• Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations for the purpose of assisting certificated personnel and/or parents in identifying needs and evaluating students.

• Responds to inquiries (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources.

• Supervise ISDP Aide(s) as assigned for the purpose of guiding them in performing their assigned duties.

 

Other Functions

• Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: application of pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; teaching strategies; working with families; and stages of child development.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: providing leadership, direction, and team building; communicating with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds; working independently under time constraints to meet deadlines and schedules; organizing and communicating information and concepts setting priorities; working as part of a team; analyzing situations and making accurate decisions; dealing with frequent interruptions and changing work priorities; working with detailed information/data and maintaining accurate records maintaining confidentiality; and facilitating communication between persons with frequently divergent positions.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the Organization’s services.

 

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 5% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.

 

Experience

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
