SAFETY PATROL

 

Purpose Statement:

The job of Safety Patrol is done for the purpose/s of assisting students crossing at busy roadways to and from school in safe and orderly manner; and communicating observations and/or incidents that may impact the general well being of students. This job reports to Supervisor of Transportation.

 

Essential Functions

•   Communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding and the potential consequences of violation.

•   Directs students daily for the purpose of ensuring that students understand the rules of crossing the road.

•   Prepares written materials (e.g. student reports, time sheets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.

•   Reports observations and/or traffic violators that endanger students crossing for the purpose of communicating information for follow up by appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.

•   Stops students at intersections for the purpose of providing safe access to and from school.

•   Stops traffic as necessary for the purpose of providing right away and ensuring the safety of students and other pedestrians.

 

Other Functions

•   Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

•   Attends meetings and training sessions as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS are required to perform single, non-technical tasks using existing skills.  Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records; and work with traffic during peak traffic periods around school.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: safety practices and procedures.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.  In working with others,  Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited.  Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; and meeting deadlines and schedules.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.  Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 30% walking, and 60% standing.  The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.
